best free screen recorder mac 2023

How to screen record on a mac, with sound. That’s what I searched for a while ago, and the results were horrifying.

There are about a million screen recording apps for the Mac. They all suck. What I wanted is to record the entire screen of a Mac, including the system sound or internal sound. Almost no screen recording app can do that.

I also wanted to be able to screen record a single Window from an app on the Mac, including its own specific app sound without the sounds of other apps. Not possible with most apps. And there are some other things I needed to do:

• screen record multiple windows on a Mac with sound
• screen record multiple apps on a Mac with each their own sound
• screen record a window on a Mac that allows for me to move the window while recording
• screen record a window on a Mac where the recording isn’t messed up if another window comes in front of it
• screen record on a Mac without QuickTime player

But alas, I could not find a simple (and free) app that does this. So I had to make some sort of app myself. And then why not put it on the Mac App Store™?

And here it is, it’s called WindowClerk Screen Recorder. It’s a free Mac app (with some limits that can be removed with an in app purchase) for macOS Ventura (13.0 or higher).
