In 2014 raywenderlich.com published a great tutorial called “How to Make a Platform Game Like Super Mario Brothers” using SpriteKit. I used it to learn about SpriteKit and using tilemaps in games.
Unfortunately the code is in Objective-C and the framework used for rendering the tilemap (JSTilemap) is no longer maintained.
Because of the educational value of this project, and because it meant a lot to me, I decided to keep it alive and make a Swift version of the game. I replaced the JSTilemap with the PEMTilemap framework.
